Homework 6.

Briefly discuss how you can use blogs, wikis OR podcasts in language teaching.

  • We can make cyber class with podcast and post it in our blogs or wikis. Then, students can watch it and learn.
  • When we give them homework, they can update it in there blogs and wikis.
  • When they have any questions of my homework, they can discuss it in their blogs.
  • Plus, they can share the  links or any materials that involved in homework.
  • And both teacher and students can edit wrong information easily in wikis.

Discuss the difference between a blog and a wiki.

  • Blog is online journal. The author post the information whenever he/she want.              Wiki is a platform so everyone can update anytime.
  • Blog is made by one person. So it is owned by individual and most of articles are one person's opinion. It is frequently updated and it is diary type.                                         Wiki is updated by many people around the world.                                                                                      It lets many users create, modify and organize web page content in a collaboration.

Homework 5.

I'm sure that, more than 90% of students in this university know how to use computer for studying and search. Also, I'm sure that, more than 80% of students in this university don't know how to use internet for teaching English-except popular software such as Power Point or MS word.

From this class I could learn that how to use internet for teaching English. For example, 'Web quest' is the one of the best way. Web quest let student search the internet to find what the topic request and have them think and consider. In other words, it teach students how to study in a passive way.

Like this, I have learned many knowledge of course in this class and another unexpected profit is the experience of real university class. As we Korean know, we had studied for 6 years like a dog-wake up 6am, go to school, academy and go to bed at 2 or 3am- and only one way to learn in high/middle school was :keep noting everything what teacher saying". When I graduated high school, I thought "Finally every boring class is over!". However, in university, I am do studying just like that. The teaching method of many professor is same as high school teacher and that is why we are shy to ask something and not used to give our opinion. We have never exposured  like that feed back situation.

Fortunately, this class gave me a chance to talk to everyone, give my opinion, share information with my colleagues.  I was too glad to just take this class. There wasn't crazy non-feedback noting. Yes! this is the class what I expect for 6 years.

I am not that smart person. I have needed more time to understand to study than my friends. So, I usually felt shame, annoyed about myself and complained my brain.
These silly mind let me give up studying, sometimes I didn't even try.
Because "I didn't study. It's boring." sounds cooler than "I can't understand. would you help me please?" for me.

However, we know, it is the easiest and fastest way to screwed my future up.
So, I admitted my ability and filled the gap up with effort. I spent a lot of time to study until  made them mine. I was studying harder than anyone and still now.

As a result, I usually don't forget what I have learned before and could get confidence.
These are my weak point and strong point.

One day, When I am going to be a teacher, I may need more time to ready or learn to teach my students. However, I am sure that, you will consider my class worth enough the wait!

Homework 4

1. How can the Internet be used as an access point to real-world knowledge our learners may lack?

  •  One of the most typical example is cyber class. We can take any class from any where in the Internet. Our learners, sometimes, don’t have enough knowledge of certain part of Studying English such as pronunciation. In this situation, we can find the video or MP3 files in Youtube which is learners want to see or listen. It shows how the Internet is used as an access point to real-world knowledge.
  • Plus, they can have indirect experience of any subject from the Internet too.

2. Examine how the Internet can be used as a starting point for authentic, relevant simulation work and as the source of materials which promote collaborative learning, communication, knowledge sharing and higher-level thinking skills.
  • The way to use Internet as a starting point for authentic, relevant simulation work is finding proper web site which is related with a topic that you plan to simulation
  • There are some examples,

  • Internet can collaborate learning, communication, knowledge sharing and higher-level thinking skills. One of the best example is ‘Wikipedia’ I think. People, live in all over the world, communicate in the cyber place and sharing their knowledge. This process gives us higher-level thinking skills because many opinions(answers, comments, replies) belong to a certain question can make synergy. I mean many different ideas are better than one definition and it is easier to happen with the Internet than face-to-face.

Homework 3 - Evaluating Web Site

The site I will analyze is http://www.eslcafe.com/

This web site is made by Dave Sperling and for students and teachers to study ESL and EFL. and also introduce a job as a ESL teacher in abroad. Here is well organized and have enough information. They have many sponsored links, but because of so many informations, they need to provide some search function.

 Authority
The author of this web site is Dave Sperling, and there are his information-address, number and e-mail. So, it is easy to contact him whenever we need to and he answers quite fast.
He made potcast for audience so, we can download his classes or mp3 files.

•Accuracy
This web site is appropriate to the site’s purpose-ESL, studying English. All the contents are easy to read and understand. This site included links relevant and many sponsor links. However, when I want to find some specific information, it is difficult because they have lots of categories. So, they need to provide some search function.

•Currency
They update many information and document everyday and the author upload his potcast often. “Grammer lesson”, “Idiom” list are not uploaded that often but they are enough to study.
And If we need more information, we can get them from sponsor links.

•Content & Functionality
This web site has interesting and neat graphic and all information is well organized and arranged.
Most of internet user can easy to navigate here and they don’t need any particular software or hardware requirements, so don’t need to be stressed to download any equipment.

•Feedback
There are particular sections called ‘Help Center’ to ask and have feedback between users and author. I think it is really essential and useful. We can share our opinion in this wall such as ‘Blogger’ or ‘Facebook’. Of course user can use e-mail but the but using ‘Help Center’ is faster and easier.

>>Conclusion
Based on these evaluation, I think this web site is a reliable source of information for intended audience to use ,so I recommend this web site to everyone who studying English.
